PG Tips Advert evaluation

When we was asked to re-brand a Unilever product, there was a lot of things to consider as a group, the main question being -  Which brand did we all feel we could relate to?

This cancelled out quite a lot of the personal care products, as every teenager is different in that department. Also, the home care section wasn't really what we were in to as teenagers.

This left Food & Drink and we weren't short of choice. There was plenty to choose from, now it was just a case of picking one. We wanted a challenge, so we looked online at some existing advertising campaigns and when we found PG Tips, we saw the opportunity.

PG Tips is a very old brand, but over the years they've failed to adapt to new era's. Their adverts have always been quite bland, which fails to generate youth. This is why we came up with the idea of redeveloping a PG Tips  advert to tailor to the people of our age. So we decided to use a typical college student as our focal point.

My role in the task was as the main actor and I also got involved with the editing. I was asked to be moody in some scenes then hyper-active in other scenes. We planned to do a split screen because the point of the advert was how drinking tea can get you through the casual college day.

In the editing stage, we decided to change our mind and just go with the hyper-active side. This was a group decision after trialing both plans.

I personally thought this was the best idea, because the side-by-side attempt looked quite basic and it was really hard to make it look nice, in this case, the simple option was the better option.

In most films we've shot, I've taken the main actor role. Not necessarily by personal preference, but because I'm usually the only one who doesn't mind being in front of the camera. I've learned a lot from doing this though, whilst also helping out in the editing stage wherever I was needed.
